Workshops

May 15 Eating Smart (Buffalo) - Learn more about healthy eating and lifestyle behaviors that will benefit you and your family.  Get tips to help you stretch your food dollar and buy nutritious foods. 

May 20 Getting Ready for Summer (Buffalo) - Explore your and yuor child's feelings as summer nears.  Plan for your child's time and activities during the summer months.  Develop good back-to-school practices.

May 22 Developmental Disabilities Awareness Day - DD Day (Buffalo) - A full day conference featuring workshop sessions, an agency fair and an area designated for parents.  Parent Network will be presenting a total of four workshops at this event.  Parents can apply for a scholarship to cover the $10 conference registration fee.

May 22 Planning Ahead: Middle School to High School (Grand Island) - Learn how to plan and develop an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) including life goals.  Understand 504 plans and what the differences are between IEP, local and regents diplomas.   

May 27 Autism Conference (Silver Creek) - This is a full-day conference featuring workshops on the following topics: overview of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), communication strategies and behavior concerns.

May 29 Recognizing Sexual Predators (Buffalo) - Learn ways to prevent child sexual abuse.  Know how to recognize the signs. 

May 31 VESID and Employment Options (Mayville) - Gain a better understanding of continuing education and job placement.  Learn more about going to work and the supports available to you from VESID (Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities).

June 3 Taking Charge of Your Child's Future (Buffalo) - Explore ways to become a meaningful advocate in your child's education.  Learn about your rights and opportunities through No Child Left Behind (NCLB).

June 9 Overview of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (Wellsville) - Learn more about the differences and similarities between the various types of autism.  Get practical strategies to use both at home and in the classroom.

**NEW Series*** 

Family Education and Training (FET) - *REVISED SCHEDULE* These workshop sessions are designed for parents/families of children with developmental disabilities who take part in  the Medicaid Waiver Services program.  Available topics include: Sensory Integration, Person Centered Planning and Development of the IEP.

Parenting Today - *REVISED SCHEDULE* These workshops are all about raising children.  Topics for these sessions include: Overview of Special Education, Helping Your Young Adolescent Succeed in School, An Overview of Autism and Surviving Parenthood.  The workshops are offered on either Tuesdays or Thursdays.

Transition to Adulthood: Paving the Way to Your Future (Chautauqua County) - The topics for these workshops are important things to keep in mind as you or your family member move from school to adulthood.

Community

Recreation EXPO - This fun-filled event at the Hamburg Arena will offer information about recreation programs available for individuals with disabilities, live sports demonstrations, food and entertainment.
