Many organizations in Western New York hold conferences for youth with disabilities and /or their family. Often these conferences have a registration fee or additional costs (for example: the cost of lunch or transportation) to attend, which could prevent individuals from attending.
The Jim Kelly Parent Network scholarship has been created to help with this. By providing a scholarship to cover registration fees and/or additional costs it allows youth with disabilities and their family to get the information they need to better care for themselves and learn to advocate (speak up) for their needs, in order to become the best that they can be.
Applications for conferences focusing on disabilities will be accepted all year long. Your application must be submitted no less than 30 days before the conference you wish to attend. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
The following qualifications must be met in order to qualify for a scholarship:
- The conference must be a disability related conference
- To apply you must be an individual with a disability who is 28 years old or younger; or be a parent/caregiver/family member or an individual with a disability
- You must live in one of the following counties: Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua
- You are expected to provide either a video or written note about what you learned from attending the conference. This is to be submitted no later than one month after the date of the conference
Anyone meeting the above requirements is eligible for the scholarship. Scholarships are limited. They will be chosen by a selection committee upon review of all the completed applications. Decisions of the selection committee are final.
