Got Stress? We Can Help!

We support individuals with disabilities and their caregivers

Launched in 2017 with funding from the New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (NYS-DDPC), the ProActive Caring Program was developed by the Center on Aging and DIS-Ability Policy (CADP) at Mount Saint Mary College to provide mindfulness-based support for family caregivers of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The program created self-paced training materials, online learning tools, and community resources in collaboration with Parent Network of Western New York and partners statewide.

Through additional grant support, the program expanded to address transition needs during the COVID-19 pandemic and to develop training tools that help individuals with IDD learn mindfulness strategies. Although grant funding has concluded, the resources and impact of the ProActive Caring Program continue to support caregivers, individuals with disabilities, and professionals.
